Streaming services Disney+ guidance for parents and carers - Stay Safe Partnership

Outcomes

To help parents and carers gain an understanding of the parental controls available through the Disney+ streaming platform.

Service Description

Disney+ parental controls can be managed via:

  • the Disney+ app
  • through the website on a supported browser

Junior mode

This can be enabled via the app or web browser by:

  1. clicking 'edit profiles'
  2. selecting a profile
  3. clicking the junior mode toggle (blue toggle means junior mode is on)

When junior mode is active, Disney+ will only display content that is appropriate for a wide range of viewing ages.

The kid-proof exit feature can be set up when junior mode is active. Activate by pressing the toggle in the ‘edit profile’ menu. When activated to exit junior profile, an exit challenge must first be completed. This feature aims to prevent younger viewers from accessing unsuitable content via other people’s profiles.

Content ratings

Different age ratings can be set for each profile using the following instructions:

  1. click 'edit profiles'
  2. select a profile and press 'edit'
  3. under parental controls, press 'content rating'
  4. type in your password, select an appropriate age rating for the profile user and save your changes

After an age rating has been set, only movies and series of or below the chosen content rating will be shown to that profile user.

Please note that content ratings cannot be set for profiles using junior mode.

Profile PIN

A four-digit PIN can be set to stop other users from accessing your Disney+ profile. This can be set up or amended using the following instructions:

  1. select edit profiles
  2. click parental controls > profile pin
  3. enter your password
  4. press continue
  5. set or amend your PIN
  6. press save

Profile creation

If a young person creates a new account, this could enable them to access unsuitable content that their child profile may not allow. This can be prevented using the following instructions:

  1. go into your main account settings (via 'account)
  2. enable â€˜restrict profile creation’
  3. if the toggle shows as blue, this is active
