To inform parents and carers of the parental controls available through the BBC iPlayer streaming platform.

BBC iPlayer parental controls are best managed using the BBC iPlayer app. This can be downloaded via:

• the Apple App Store
• Amazon Appstore
• Google Play Store

Open the app and login by entering your email address and password.

If your child is under 13, you may choose to create a child account. This will ensure they are only able to access CBeebies and CBBC content via their profile.

To create a child account, click on your account icon in the top left-hand corner of the screen. This may be displayed as the first letter of your name or as a person icon. Click ‘add child’, enter their name and date of birth, then click ‘create profile’. This account can now be used when your child watches TV via the iPlayer app.

To set parental controls, ensure you are on your own account, then click the settings cog in the top right-hand corner of the screen. Select parental controls on the menu and ensure they are switched on by selecting the toggle (toggle showing pink indicates they are on).

You will then be invited to set up a four-digit PIN code to protect your child from age-restricted content. This means if they do end up accessing your account, your PIN code will have to be entered to watch certain content. This includes shows which recommend parental guidance. Enter your PIN a second time to confirm it.

Parental controls have now been enabled. This means users will be asked to enter the PIN to watch age-restricted content via the iPlayer app.

Enabling parental controls will automatically turn on:

• the parental guidance lock (requires PIN before playing age-restricted content)
• the profile switching lock (requires PIN when switching from a child profile to your account)

These can be individually switched on and off.

You can change your PIN at any time via the parental control setting located at the bottom of the page.
